Encouraging Pro Environmental Behaviour - How Social Psychology Can Help Us

with Dr. Robert Cialdini
Date and Time: July 9th, 2009, 1 pm EST

Session Description: Studies show that communications that employ social norms-based appeals for conservation are superior to those using traditional appeals. In this session, renowned social scientist, Dr. Robert Cialdini, will address how you can (1) incorporate the power of social norms into your sustainability messaging and (2) avoid a frequently-made error in the process.

This conference call is brought to you by the Media Strategies for Sustainability initiative, a partnership sponsored by USPESD, HEASC, DANS and NCSPOD. The conference call is part of a larger series of international conference calls initiated in May, 2009.

You are invited to learn from experts who generously share their time, knowledge and experience through conference call chats and presentations. The goal of this initiative is to provide an opportunity for you to share and learn successful strategies for media engagement; to increase local and national coverage of sustainability efforts at your institution; and to learn more about innovations and learning from other institutions.

The conference calls are free and easy to access. All you need is a phone.

About Campus Sustainability Day

Campus Sustainability Day was founded in 2002 as part of the Society for College and University Planning's early efforts—working with Second Nature—to support cross-departmental, cross-disciplinary, cross-functional, integrated campus planning for sustainability. A lot has happened in this area since 2002, and now—although SCUP continues to provide the cornerstone high-quality webcast for Campus Sustainability Day—this network and the day itself are a collaboration between many organizations, including HEASC members and the National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Project.
